Ruin Porn

I was in awe when I saw this photo... it's like a Dali painting, but it's real. It's part of an art show that will be going on at the Queen's Museum of Art called Detroit Disassembled: Photograph's by Andrew Moore.
The photos have been discussed in the New York Times and as they tell it, some residents of Detroit detest them and refer to the photos as 'Ruin Porn'. I can't help be blown away by the beauty of these shots. These buildings were once a symbol of progress, technology and the future... and now they sit there deteriorating, looking like nothing more than a pile of junk. It's so sad. At what point were they just given up on? How could we justify not caring for such wonderful buildings in our own cities? If you look at some of the photos by Andrew Moore, you some of the grandeur of what once was peeking out from under the rubble.
